The new season of the CW series kicks off on Tuesday along with the new version of another Aaron Spelling classic, Melrose Place. The first season DVD of the FX biker hit Sons of Anarchy is also a crowd pleaser with stars Charlie Hunuum, Katey Sagal and Ron Perlman in a different (but edgy) kind of family drama. As the second season is set to premiere this Tuesday on FX, why not give you a chance to catch up on the first crop of solid, intense episodes? AND make sure to catch the 2nd season premiere of Sons of Anarchy this Tuesday at 10/9c on FX. The first season left a lot of strings hanging with the Teller-Morrow clans as they play out a modern day Hamlet. Good stuff with great acting and you’ll never see Katey Sagal as Peg Bundy again after seeing her sink her teeth into her role of matriarch Gemma Teller Morrow.
The Fringe first season DVD is out Tuesday
On the flip side of biker drama is sci-fi drama with FOX’s hit Fringe. The show came out of the gate last fall and hit a chord with fans and critics alike. Credit creator the uber-talented team of JJ Abrams, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. Yep, the same guys that brought us Lost among other great shows. A cross of Twilight Zone, Altered States and The X Files, the series revolves around three unlikely colleagues – a beautiful young FBI Agent (the stunning Anna Torv), a brilliant scientist who has been in a mental hospital for 17 years (John Noble) and the scientist’s sardonic son (Joshua Jackson breaking his Pacey mold) – who together investigate bizarre deaths and disasters known as ‘the pattern.’ The team spends the first season uncovering evidence that someone is using the world as a kind-of experimental lab and all the clues lead to Massive Dynamic, a symbol of corporate power and greed that, in this scenario, could lead to the end of the world.

Fringe has the right balance of sci-fi intrigue peppered with the personal stories of the three leads. And, like Lost, there is a conspiracy happening here that will probably take the entire run of the series to uncover. Good for fans who live and breath these kinds of shows and, thankfully, Fringe delivers. With the first season DVD being released on Tuesday from Warner Brothers Home Video, it’s a great time to watch the A+ crop of episodes and feel prepped for the upcoming second season premiere on September 17th.
