Thanks to everyone who entered the thirtysomething Season 3 DVD giveaway! The lucky winners are Amy Coco (Pittsburgh, PA), Michael Travis (Chicago, IL) and Patty Chambers (Studio City, CA). It won’t be long before the final season (yes, it was only on for 4 seasons—seems longer, right?) so keep checking back for news on that and, if all goes well, another giveaway!
NEW GIVEAWAY: I know there are some out there who feel the MTV soapy drama The Hills is tired and the season finale later this year cannot come soon enough. Well, I disagree but maybe it’s because I’m a little late to the party since I just started watching last season. Regardless, the kind folks at MTV has given me three Season 5 sets of The Hills (the season was split up on two DVDs) so this is a great time to relive the last episodes with star Lauren Conrad and the arrival of Kristin Cavallari.
To enter, just email me at jim@jimhalterman.com before midnight PST on May 19th. I’ll announce winners next Friday. Good luck!!
Ian Somerhalder as Damon, Steven R. McQueen as Jeremy, Paul Wesley as Stefan on last night's VAMPIRE DIARIES
CLIFFHANGER SHOCKER!!! I like to think of myself as someone that knows TV and sometimes that gets me into trouble because I see stories unfolding predictably and so it takes some of the fun out from my favorite shows. Well, I didn’t see the last five minutes of last night’s Vampire Diaries coming at all. [If you have not watched the season finale yet and don't want to know what happened, read no further!!! SPOILER ALERT!]
I had a fearful moment thinking the season would end with Damon caught in the basement fire and I immediately recalled Linda Evans and Joan Collins caught in the burning cabin in one of the Dynasty cliffhangers from yesteryear (yes, I’m showing my age!) but things did not go that way and kudos to episode writers Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec for crafting a finale with a huge end of episode shocker. By saying over and over that Katherine was gone and not coming back (but not saying it too much) as well as the season-building sexual tension between Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder), the kiss on the doorstep of Elena’s house made sense and had everyone screaming because as much as we love Stefan (Paul Wesley) the story developments that will come out of a Damon/Elena pairing would be fantastic and, yes, we want drama and that would bring it. But, the reveal that Elena wasn’t Elena after all but Katherine was a phenomenal twist that I never saw coming. Did you? Cannot wait for next season!
And what does everyone think….is Tyler a werewolf as has been rumored for so long? The yellow eyes lead us to believe he’s something and let’s hope this gives the underused Michael Trevino a bigger part in next season.
What did YOU think of the finale!? Tell me here and I’ll post your comments next week.
Until next time….keep on watching!
