Jenni, Zoila, Ryan and Jeff Lewis of FLIPPING OUT
Jeff Lewis grows on you. As the third season of Bravo’s Flipping Out kicks off Monday night, the out OCD house flipper becomes more relatable due to the hard times his business has endured due to the bottoming out of the economy.
In fact, Lewis has had to do what a lot of Americans have – rethink not only their business but life strategy. For Lewis, that means he returns to home design/remodeling since it’s not a good environment to be flipping houses. For viewers, we see a Jeff who seems more human than any other season of the series.
In the first season of Flipping Out, Lewis was a challenge to like with his irrational tantrums and ridiculously picky behavior (he would insist he get his Starbucks coffee at a particular temperature and he claimed to know when it was a few degrees off). Last year, he began working on himself in therapy and, as the new season begins, Lewis almost seems happy (GASP!) despite the routine stress in his life and work.
Flipping Out viewers need not worry. Lewis is still Lewis as he eats humble pie having to be at the beck and call of clients but he also seems to be having more fun, especially with his entertaining staff. Zoila, the maid (and fan favorite), is back and she and Lewis have a cute, playful relationship that masks how much they really care about each other.
Since Lewis’s assistants come and go, there are some new faces, including a cute intern named Trace (Lewis calls him “Tracy”) and while he seems to be a young Jeff Lewis, is that a romantic spark in Jeff Lewis’s eye?
Finally, the heart and soul of this series this season is the relationship between Lewis and his loyal assistant, Jenni, who experienced the breaking of her marriage on camera last season. Now, 10 months later, Jenni is not only ready to start dating but she has Lewis to thank for being a friend during her divorce and helping her get in a better place.
The relationship between Lewis and Jenni is more like older brother/younger sister than anything else and Lewis is more likable because of it. Lewis is still a control freak and he and Jenni will always bicker over which way to get to a destination but, underneath it all, this is the kind of heartwarming relationship that is missing from other Bravo shows like The Real Housewives, which is more about who can make the most noise.
Lewis and Jenni say that the Flipping Out world is like a dysfunctional family and, for viewers of the reality series, that’s a very good thing.
Flipping Out airs every Monday at 10/9c.
