VAMPIRE DIARIES’ Kevin Williamson talks Stefan’s journey with Klaus and why the gays aren’t in Mystic Falls…yet.

Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder in a scene from VAMPIRE DIARIES

Freshly wet from a morning shower, smoldering Ian Somerhalder walks into the room wearing a towel and a smile and, just at the right moment, ’accidentally’ drops his towel in front of the object of his affection.

Of course, there is a camera crew capturing this scenario which makes it just another day (and another TV episode) in Mystic Falls, the fictional town that is the setting for the CW hit series The Vampire Diaries. With the series now in its third season, Somehalder, in his role of bad boy vampire Damon Salvatore, is very used to shedding some skin on the set. Anything for high ratings, right?

While the series is based on the Vampire Diaries books by L.J. Smith, the television adaptation has been brought to us via the creative mind of Kevin Williamson (along with Executive Producer Julie Plec).

The out Williamson is best known for both the teen television series Dawson’s Creek and the Scream films but is now focused on making the hearts of Vampire Diaries fans race with fast-paced stories and, of course, a bevy of gorgeous men.

Besides Somerhalder, the series features an eyeful filled of the often-shirtless Paul Wesley (Stefan), Michael Trevino (Tyler), Zach Roerig (Matt), Joseph Morgan (Klaus) and Steven R. McQueen (Jeremy).

Williamson isn’t sitting idle, though, since he has another series, The Secret Circle, that is also based on a different L.J. Smith series, airs right after The Vampire Diaries on the CW and is doing so well it was just picked up for a full season of episodes.

I caught up with Williamson at a recent press event for the new Fall TV season to talk keeping shirts off, secrets in his storytelling and why we probably won’t be seeing too many gay characters in Mystic Falls anytime soon….CLICK HERE TO CONTINUEand see some more HOT pics of the TVD guys!

“I don’t have one yet. Maybe on another show” –I hope he means that he’s going to introduce a gay character on the Secret Circle.

Still, I don’t get it. Gay characters are practically the norm for vampire novels (leaving aside those sparkly mormons or whatever they are); how difficult would it be to have Damon be gay or bi? How difficult to finally have Matt come out?
