ICYMI: Harry Shum Jr Talks His Bisexual Character on ‘Shadowhunters’

In case you hadn’t heard, one of the most popular book series on the market today, the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare, is coming to television in January and a gay romance is a big part of what we’re going to see.

Shadowhunters is the series version that picks up during the first book in the series, City of Bones and follows the adventures of Clary Fray (played by Katherine McNamara) as she uncovers her true identity as a shadowhunter. Besides her alliance and romance with fellow hunter Jace (Dominic Sherwood), Jace’s best friend Alec (Matthew Daddario) is also going to experience something new to him when he meets warlock Magnus (Harry Shum, Jr.), who is bisexual.

While it’s too soon to see just how quickly or how far the series will go in their relationship, fans are already ga-ga for #Malec and that fan base should spell big ratings for ABC Family (which will undergo a name change to Free Form in January).

I was on the set of Shadowhunters and grabbed some time with Harry Shum Jr to talk about Magnus and his relationship with Alec. (Note: This video originally appeared on the NewNowNext site).

Shadowhunters premieres January 12th on FreeForm (formerly ABC Family).

I loved the interview! I loved how well Harry understood Magnus.
Thank you for this!
Can’t wait for Matthew’s Interview. When would that be released? Around “beyond the shadows”?
