Rapper/singer/actress Eve appears in tonights GLEE
On tonight’s episode of Fox’s hit series Glee entitled “Hairography,” rapper/singer/actress/ Eve Jeffers, aka Eve, appears in a non-singing role as a part of Sue Sylvester’s plan to destroy the glee club. To talk about her experience appearing on the show, Eve took questions from the press earlier this week.
Question: What made you want to guest star in Glee?
Eve: To be honest, I have to say it was kind of out of the blue. I got asked if I wanted to be a part of it, and I was like, “Sure.” I had heard the buzz about the show and when the first pilot episode came out, and I figured it was something really different; something that we haven’t seen on TV before, and I felt like it was something to do. I didn’t want to turn it down and I’m happy I’m a part of it.
What is Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) up to now?
Question: Tell us about your character and how she fits in to sort of Sue’s plan of screwing over the glee club.
Eve: Well, this episode that you’ll see is actually just her as an administrator and she definitely gets approached about trying to get rid of the glee club at the school, but you basically just see her being a teacher and being an administrator for these reform school girls. And you see her take these girls to the school and see them do this “Bootylicious” number, which kind of blows the competition away. It’s a really funny episode…I don’t sing, which is fine. It was really fun to kind of sit back and watch other people sing. I’m kind of like the choir director, which was pretty cool.

Question: Do you yourself have any experience in school with choir or glee club? Was that something that you were ever a part of?
Eve: Yes, I actually was. Choir was something that was really big for me for a few years of my life. Probably from fourth to eighth grade, it’s something I participated in.
Question: Was it an experience as in the show where the kids in the glee club or the choir were shunned, or was it something cool to do?
Eve: You know, that’s a good question. I can’t remember if we were cool or not. I think we probably weren’t that cool. When I got to about seventh or eighth grade, though, I didn’t worry about it much. I was in Catholic school at that time, and I guess I didn’t worry about it that much.
Question: What would you like to bring to a new audience in a different way?
Eve: I think that it’s cool that I was able to be on the show and not sing. But obviously, if there were another episode that I could come back, it would be amazing if I could sing just because this show is just so different and nothing has been on TV like this for a long time. So it’d be great to come back and do something, an amazing number, some song that nobody would expect me to ever do. But yes, that’d be cool.
Question: If you could have any songs in there, what would you have chosen?
Eve: Probably “Sweet Dreams.” That’s my karaoke go-to. But I probably would have picked that song.
Question: How is that interacting with the cast and did you get that feeling from any of them?
Eve: The cast are the sweetest, loveliest people. I had the best time. You could just tell how happy and proud they were to be a part of the show and it’s kind of infectious, because I felt the same way. I just was so happy and honored to be on set. They’re the sweetest kids.
Question: Did you bond with any of them in particular?
Eve: No, I didn’t. They all kind of move together. They’re pretty much a little clique of their own. But like I said, they were the sweetest kids.
Question: How is your approach different than Will (played by Matthew Morrison)?
Eve: I think for me especially, I come from a harder place. I’m the teacher of a reform school and my girls…I’m used to being very strict with them. So I think in that aspect, you can see the dynamic between us when we’re sitting across the desk from each other that I come from a harder place than he does.
Question: And how does this role compare to other TV roles that you’ve done?
Eve: Well, this is the first time being a teacher. That was really fun. That was really fun to sit back and be kind of an administrator and be like a choir director. That was pretty cool.
